Routine to Recovery

Montgomery Center for Joint Replacement offers a proven format that maximizes recovery and minimizes discomfort.

Your Joint Treatment Plan

First, you and your physician determine that you're a candidate for joint replacement surgery.

Joint Camp

Many of our patients have referred to the Montgomery Center for Joint Replacement as Joint Camp because our program is so unique. Patients have their surgery on Monday or Tuesday and go home on Thursday or Friday.

Our unique care includes:

  • Nurses and therapists who specialize in the care of joint patients
  • Emphasis on group activities as well as individual care
  • Lunches in the Montgomery Room with family and staff on Wednesday and/or Thursday
  • Occupational therapists who educate patients on assistive devices, joint protection, and energy conservation techniques can be used during activities of daily living (ADLs), work and leisure activities
  • Family and friends participate as "coaches" in the recovery process
  • A Joint Care Coordinator who coordinates all pre-operative and patient center discharge planning
  • A comprehensive patient guide for you to follow from six weeks pre-op until three months post-op and beyond
  • Coordinated after-care program
  • Quarterly newsletters that update you with new information on arthritis and joint care
  • Bi-weekly education seminars on hip and knee replacement surgery
Orientation About Joint Surgery

Two weeks before your surgery, a group composed of you and the other patients having surgery on the same week (there are never more than seven) attend an informative orientation session. You'll be able to meet the team that will be responsible for your care, ask questions, and tour the unit. You'll also receive a helpful packet of information to review at your leisure.

On the Day of Surgery

On surgery day, you'll be escorted to the surgical waiting area. After your procedure, you'll be taken to your room where your nurse, who will be taking care of you for your entire stay, will greet you. You can expect to be in the hospital for just four days.

Active Recovery Schedule

Each day begins with an early morning newsletter about your daily activities. Your days will be filled with a combination of therapies designed to help you learn to use your joint and prepare you for your new, active life. Patients are encouraged to have a family member or friend act as a coach and participate daily in your recovery.

Enjoy Extra Special Services

Montgomery General Hospital wants to make your stay as pleasant as possible. In addition to the comfort of being able to wear your own clothing, you'll be treated to specially prepared meals courtesy of our chef. For lunch, you'll enjoy the company of other patients while dining on a linen-covered table. On your last evening with us, you will be served a gourmet meal.

Surgery Follow-Up

Within 30 days after you leave the hospital, you can expect a follow-up phone call from us.
