The 88th Annual Picnic and Bazaar is set for Tuesday, July 22, 2008
The Women's Board of Montgomery General Hospital will sponsor its 88th Annual Picnic and Bazaar on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 on the old Hospital grounds at Route 108 and Prince Philip Drive in Olney. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Guests will enjoy traditional picnic foods, including fried chicken, corn-on-the-cob, coleslaw, barbeque, hot dogs, ice cream, popcorn and cotton candy. Approximately 4000 pounds of chicken and 2,000 ears of corn are cooked for the picnic.
Beginning with the singing of the National Anthem, the event features performances by local entertainers, and Kiddieland with games, prizes, a moon bounce, clowns and balloons. Antiques, collectibles, jewelry, flowers, plants, garden produce, books and homemade baked goods will be among the many items available for sale. The Women's Board Thrift Shop is open for business throughout the day. The event concludes with a raffle drawing.
More than 1,500 community volunteers work with The Women's Board to raise funds to benefit Montgomery General Hospital and The Women's Board Scholarship Fund through events such as the Annual Picnic and Bazaar. 71 scholarships were given in 2007 to high school students and Hospital employees for the study of nursing and other careers in allied healthcare fields.
