Wilderness Medicine
30 Credit Course

This course is designed to teach necessary emergency medical procedures, emergency medical diagnosis, and treatment in a non-hospital environment.  The course is suitable for both the medical professional, the layman, or the athlete. 

Syllabus:

Day 1:  Lecture discussing content of course
Day 2:  Full 12 hours outdoors with medical learning in a practical environment of trail hiking / trail running, rock climbing, climbing and an emphasis on high angle rescue.  There will be a stop every half mile on hike to do extensive medical teaching.  The high angle rescue portion needs no prior experience or equipment.  Also taught will be important climbing anchors, knots for rescue, use of ascenders, both mechanical and rope grab, emergency harness, safety, how to deliver a baby in the wild, how to diagnose and treat all manner of orthopedic fractures and dislocations, and much more.
Day 3:  Approximately 13 hours starting at a fire station with 2-3 hours of lecture, then into swift water to learn safe crossing, swimmers position, getting over a strainer, dangers of low head dams, throw bag use, and much more.
